  33.        Computerized EEG signals  were  used  to  evaluate  the  effects  of
  34.        "Synchro-Energizer" stimulation.   Synchro-Energizer  (S-E)  devices
  35.        are the newest craze in stress reduction.
  36.  
  37.        The S-E device  includes  dark  goggles  with  tiny  lights  inside,
  38.        earphones and a  control  module  that  varies  the  light and sound
  39.        sequence.  S-E salons are springing up around metropolitan areas and
  40.        are enjoying a lot of media attention.

  42.        Power Spectra were obtained for the standard frequency bands (delta,
  43.        theta, alpha and beta); activity  in  microvolts  for  each band was
  44.        measured before, during and after a twenty minute session on the S-E
  45.        device.

  47.        Although the S-E  device  is  ALLEGED to induce a mental  relaxation
  48.        response, we found  no  statistical evidence supporting existence of
  49.        LASTING relaxation-type changes, i.e.  NO INCREASE in alpha or theta
  50.        range activity, in  the  EEG  of  thirty  young, healthy  volunteers
  51.        thirty minutes POST S-E use.
